Gardening Group

The newly-formed gardening group will be gathering on Wednesday, Apr 13, at 6:00 pm. They will walk around Westside's campus, see where some good spots might be to build boxes (based on sun, wind, energy analysis, etc.) and start taking inventory of what we already have and what we will need to get started.

Speak to Pastor Brett if you are interested in joining the group or supporting them through donations.

Verifying Information

Every so often, we need to verify your contact information and clean up our database, before we print a new directory. It’s that time again.

If you will be at church some Sunday this month, look for your letter on the entryway table. All family members are in one envelope. Please correct and/or supply information directly on the letter and place it in the ‘completed forms’ basket. (Pro tip: if you will return the envelope as well, we can re-use it and save a little money!)

Thank you so much for your participation!

UMCOR Sunday

This Sunday, March 27, is a special giving day for United Methodists. Once a year, UMCs all across the globe take up an offering to support the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).

When disaster strikes in the US or around the world, UMCOR goes into action to help alleviate suffering and express the love of Christ to those involved.

In 2021 gifts to UMCOR Sunday totaled $1,272,162. Your gifts support UMCOR’s cost of doing business. This helps UMCOR keep the promise that 100 percent of any gift to a specific UMCOR project will go toward that project, not administrative costs. UMCOR has no source of income for sustaining administration except through gifts to UMCOR Sunday offering.

You may designate UMCOR on your check or through our online giving, or you may visit UMC.org/SSGive

WFWA Spring Celebration

The Western Farm Workers Association’s next big event will be the Spring Celebration and Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 16.

They are collecting baskets, plastic eggs, candy, small toys, egg dyeing kits, and all types of party supplies. (No cellophane grass for the baskets, thanks!) Last year, over 200 baskets were delivered with a food distribution. This year, the celebration will be outdoors.

There is a basket for donations in the church entryway. Contact Merry G if you can help with the event or if you need your donations picked up.

Opportunities Springing Up

As we emerge from our COVID/winter hibernation, there are fresh opportunities to awaken and re-energize our church!

Pastor Brett is starting a gardening group to use some of the campus for gardening. This is mostly for fun, health, and a creative outlet for anyone in our community. No prior experience is required. Youth are to be accompanied by a parent, please. This idea is just germinating (!), so contact Pastor Brett to find out more. We will also need donations to supply the gardening group, including dimensional lumber (2x6 or 2x8 cedar boards preferred), quality soil, compost, and quality tools (shovels, hoes, buckets, gloves).

Fred C is looking for a partner at the back booth who would find fulfillment leading the congregation in visual worship. Training would be provided, working knowledge of computers preferable. Talk to Pastor Brett or Fred if you are interested.

Outgoing people (you know who you are!) who love welcoming others are desired to serve one Sunday a month. Talk to Pastor Brett for more details.

The Church is looking for more people who want to help stewardship the campus and its building resources and managing repairs when things break. Join Ed D and Gerry E in maintaining and beautifying the building as we *hopefully* get back to "normal" this year.
