Family Promise #GivingTuesday

From Family Promise —

TWO YEARS – Happy Anniversary!
We are celebrating our two-year anniversary of serving children and their families suffering homelessness in the Beaverton School District!!  THANK YOU to all our hosts, donors, volunteers, staff, past and present board members.  We could never have opened in such a short timeframe, run a successful 1st phase capital campaign, and survived the early months of a pandemic without the help of so many.  For our children and families we say THANK YOU!!  With your help we have provided 6785 bednights, and 20,355 nutritious meals in our first two years!!!

Guest News –
Today is also the one month birthday of our youngest guests, Wesley & Vera, Kat and Anton’s newborns.  We are so blessed to have the Day Center house for Kat and Anton to bring their newborn babies home to during these difficult times.  THANK YOU again to all those that made the house a reality.

Our guest, Austin, just graduated from high school.  We are so happy and so proud of him.  Through a very difficult time in his life to suffer homelessness, he stayed working hard at school, applied himself and finished high school.  Congratulations Austin!

Great News –
We just received news that we are now part of the Nike Global Giving platform for employees to match their donations.  We also continue to be part of Intel’s Benevity platform for matches for their employees.

GIVING NEWS
We are so grateful to receive an emergency $25,000 challenge grant through the Siegel Foundation.  This is a great start to our $50,000 GoFundMe fundraiser which we will kick off today with GivingTuesday.  While we are blessed to be able to house our families in our house and in a hotel for the short term, we know the future is uncertain and are very concerned about when the eviction moratoriums expire.  We know we will see a wave of children and their families suffering homelessness.

In this challenging time of pandemic, the definition of "temporary" is evolving. While we did house our families in hotels for a few months during March and April, we are now finding more cost effective options. We will shift to rent apartments and use those units as emergency housing, while continuing to host families at the Day House when feasible. Family Promise of Beaverton will be on the lease and host families in the units until they can secure their own housing which is usually 70-90 days. Part of our current fundraiser will cover the cost of the rent and utilities of these apartments.
